When Disciples Sin

sad-face

It is an unfortunate truth that as long as we live, we will continue to do things which are not pleasing to God. One of the biggest differences between a disciple of Jesus and those who are not is that disciples do not want to sin! Furthermore, when a Christian sins, he or she will feel remorse and sorrow at their spiritual failing and endeavor not to repeat it. What should a Christian do when he or she gives in to temptation?

Fellow Disciples

teameffort

The Bible teaches that Christians are to keep company with one another. It says, “let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds. Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another…” (Hebrews 10:24-25). It is clear from this Bible passage that God considers it to be of utmost importance for our spiritual well-being to spend time with other Christians. There are numerous examples in the Bible of God’s people spending much time with one another. Being a Christian isn’t something God meant for us to do alone; it is a team effort! Perhaps the following story can illustrate why.

Listening to God

Listen

God is talking to you, are you listening? God isn’t speaking audibly of course; He communicates with us through His written message, the Bible. The Bible is a collection of writings that records God’s interactions with mankind. The overall theme of the Bible is God’s work in the creation and redemption of mankind. The Bible is usually thought of as one book, but is actually a collection of 66 books. The English word “Bible” comes from the Greek word biblos which means a written book, a roll or a scroll.

About the Bible

These books were written by approximately 40 different people spanning a time period of over 1500 years. God used men from many walks of life to record His message to us. These men came from diverse backgrounds. Some were kings while others were humble shepherds. Some were highly educated while others had little formal training.

Talking To God

Prayer Hotline

God wants to hear from you! The Bible is filled with countless examples of God’s people talking to Him. When we talk to God, it is called praying. Why would we talk to God, doesn’t He already know everything about us? Yes He does, but He still wants you to talk to Him. We all have people in our life who are very close to us and know almost everything about us. Don’t we still have conversations with them? What kind of relationship would we have with our closest friends and family if we never spoke to them? Failing to communicate with our Earthly companions is a sure way to ruin a relationship. It is the same with God. Speaking with God helps us to grow as Christians.

I Became a Christian, Now What?

Narrow Path

So, you’ve heard the good news about Jesus being able to take away your sins and you’ve acted upon it. Congratulations! You have begun the most important journey of your life. You are walking a path that the majority of people choose not to take. Jesus said, “Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it” (Matthew 7:13-14). Heaven is rejoicing at your decision, “there will be more rejoicing in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who do not need to repent” (Luke 15:7).

Expect Opposition

On the other hand, someone else is not happy at all. The Devil hates us and will do all that he can to distract and lead us away from the narrow path that leads to Heaven. While the Devil is a powerful foe, we need not feel fear or intimidation. We should find courage from the Bible verse which says, “If God is for us, who can be against us?” (Romans 6:31). If we walk the narrow path, God is on our side. With Him as an ally, we cannot lose.
