Listening to God

Listen

God is talking to you, are you listening? God isn’t speaking audibly of course; He communicates with us through His written message, the Bible. The Bible is a collection of writings that records God’s interactions with mankind. The overall theme of the Bible is God’s work in the creation and redemption of mankind. The Bible is usually thought of as one book, but is actually a collection of 66 books. The English word “Bible” comes from the Greek word biblos which means a written book, a roll or a scroll.

These men came from diverse backgrounds. Some were kings while others were humble shepherds. Some were highly educated while others had little formal training.

Talking To God

Prayer Hotline

God wants to hear from you! The Bible is filled with countless examples of God’s people talking to Him. When we talk to God, it is called praying. Why would we talk to God, doesn’t He already know everything about us? Yes He does, but He still wants you to talk to Him. We all have people in our life who are very close to us and know almost everything about us. Don’t we still have conversations with them? What kind of relationship would we have with our closest friends and family if we never spoke to them? Failing to communicate with our Earthly companions is a sure way to ruin a relationship. It is the same with God. Speaking with God helps us to grow as Christians.

Separated from God

Expelled from Paradise

In the beginning when God created the first two people, Adam and Eve, they had intimate friendship and fellowship with God and lived in a paradise called the Garden of Eden. They were innocent and guilt free having never committed any kind of wrong doing and God actually walked among them. They were free of fear, blame, worry, regret and any other undesirable emotion that people experience now. We can only imagine what it might have been like to live in such a paradise. In this paradise, there was only one law; there was a certain tree whose fruit Adam and Eve were forbidden to eat. Unfortunately, Adam and Eve chose to eat the fruit of this tree violating God’s law. Breaking God’s law revealed that Adam and Eve had stopped trusting in God and everything was about to change.

The implication from the Bible is that had they remained obedient, they would have lived forever in the Garden of Eden enjoying God’s fellowship. God had warned them that the consequences of eating from this tree would be death. God gave them the ability to choose and they chose the path of disobedience. They were expelled from their garden paradise to prevent them from eating from the Tree of Life. Access to the fruit of this tree would have resulted in them living forever in a condition of broken trust and disobedience to God. Now they would grow old and die.
