Does Genesis Reveal The Age Of The Earth?

Christians are divided into two camps when it comes to the Genesis creation account. Both believe God created the world but differ about its age. One group affirms the Earth is billions of years old and the other group concludes Earth is relatively young being only 6,000 – 10,000 years old. The assumption underlying both of these interpretations is that Genesis 1 is an account of the material origins of the Universe. Is Genesis a revelation of creation from a scientific perspective? Or, is it an account of creation, written to accommodate an ancient cosmology, describing how God brought order out of chaos?

The Bible is much harder to understand than we think it is. By no means is it impossible to comprehend, but to have more than a surface level knowledge requires time and commitment. The Bible is an ancient text and not like modern literature. Failing to recognize this fact can lead to distortions of its real message.

Churchy Words: Repent

Christians have their own insider language

Nearly every group, profession, guild, etc. has their own insider language which they understand amongst themselves, but sounds like gibberish to outsiders. Likewise, Christians have their own insider language which can sound really strange to new Christians and non-Christians alike. These “churchy words” are increasingly unfamiliar to a society that is no longer biblically literate and is largely secularized.
